It took us four hours to cross the border from Bolivia into Brazil – one hour for an exit stamp and three to get into Brazil. The Puerto Quijarro-Corumba crossing is not one of the fastest or most well-used! A couple of kids from Sao Paolo adopted me for a while to practice their English.
Corumba was a nice surprise – humid but pretty and laidback. It’s right by the border with Bolivia, but you’re definitely in Brazil as soon as you arrive.
Corumba was once a booming river port on the Rio Paraguai, but first the railway and then the roads took trade away. It’s pretty sleepy, but does have a few party boats which set sail from the quayside and head down river for evening trips.
Some of the old warehouses have been refurbished into shops and bars, but they open much later in the evening.
Very grand Art Nouveau building for such a small place!
