Next stop Indonesia!

tana toraja houses

It’s #WanderfulWednesday again (it seems to come round quicker every week!). If you love travelling and want to inspire and share your stories with others, this is the Blog Hop for you! Visit any of the blogs listed below to read this week’s posts.

In just over a week I’ll be heading east to a part of the world I’ve never visited before, Indonesia! Java and Sulawesi, to be precise.

We’re starting our trip on Java to see Borobodur, which has been on my wish list ever since I saw it on the front of the DK book The Road Less Travelled. We’re also planning a visit to Prambanan, a 9th century Hindu temple during our stay in nearby Yogyakarta. Yogya is one of the best places to experience local cultural highlights including shadow puppet shows. I’m also planning some market shopping to check out the batik and wood carvings.

Then it’s a short hop over to Sulawesi, one of the largest islands in Indonesia. Our first stop is Manado for a rainforest hike in Tangkoko national park, hopefully spotting some tarsiers (a tiny monkey with saucer-like eyes). Then a couple of days r&r on Bunaken to enjoy the clear waters and snorkelling. And then visiting the fascinating –sounding Tana Toraja land, home to boat-shaped houses and strange burial sites amongst the rice paddies.

I can’t wait to explore this part of the world! I’m also (sadly?) excited to be travelling in an A380 plane for the first time!
