The Olympic Road Races were only a couple of hours from me and I couldn’t miss the chance to be on the roadside, seeing all those familiar peleton faces fly past along Surrey roads.
On Sunday we were lucky enough to get returned tickets for the viewing area up on Box Hill, where the women tackled two circuits of the climb. The atmosphere up there was fantastic and we even appeared on the TV coverage (blink and you’d miss us…)
After the last few cyclists from countries as diverse as Thailand and Sweden had passed by we moved across to a huge screen they had set up on top of Box Hill. Usually you would get a great view from up here but true to form the great British summer delivered yet more rain!
I still can’t quite believe that I saw Lizzie Armistead on the way to a great silver for GB. Next week I’m off to the Olympic Park to watch the basketball and I can’t stop smiling at the thought that I’m actually watching Olympic events in my own country!
